การ telnet เป็นการตรวจสอบค่า Incoming Mail Server (ค่า smtp port 110) หรือค่า Outgoing Mail Server (ค่า smtp port 25) ว่าทำงานปกติหรือไม่ ทำได้โดยการใช้คำสั่ง telnet ที่ command dos ดังนี้
1. การตรวจสอบค่า Outgoing Mail Server ว่าทำงานปกติหรือไม่ โดยการใช้คำสั่ง telnet mail.your domainname 25 ถ้า Telnet ได้ คือ Outgoing Mail Server ทำงานปกติ

2. การตรวจสอบค่า Incoming Mail Server ว่าทำงานปกติหรือไม่ โดยการใช้คำสั่ง telnet mail.your domainname 110 ถ้า Telnet ได้ คือ Incoming Mail Server ทำงานปกติ
